Planet Care Pollinator Project

Help us to build bee hotels for solitary bees and rewild our school and community gardens

This term our Planet Care Assemblies in school are on Biodiversity and the whole school is learning about the importance of ecosystems and how we can protect them.  We have been joined by local artist and bee enthusiast Robin Blackledge (http://www.floatliveart.co.uk/) to begin a project to build sculptural bee hotels on our school and forest school sites.  We would like our whole community to see themselves as ‘citizen scientists’ and help provide a rich habitat for pollinators and support biodiversity in our area.

We plan to build our bee hotels at the end of March but we will need flowers, herbs and plants to attract the bees.  We would like to ask as many people as possible to plant seeds or flowers now, in gardens, on window sills or in pots to keep at home or bring to school preparation for the bee hotels in April.

More info to follow………….

We want our local area to become a haven for solitary bees and we aim to build bee hotels and plant flowers and herbs for them. We also hope to contribute to real science (by observing the bees and contributing to national data collection on bee numbers and habitats) and help to conserve and aid the survival of bee species across the UK.
